Homemade Butterbeer
Adapted by Elise Cleppe
Though this homemade butterbeer doesn’t contain the real wizarding kick, no splash of Butterbeer strong enough to make house-elves tipsy, it still captures the cozy magic fans first tasted in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. In the books, Butterbeer is sipped in the snug booths of The Three Broomsticks in Hogsmeade, described as warm, frothy, and sweet, somewhere between butterscotch and cream soda. This real-world version borrows from old British buttered ales and hot toffee drinks, swapping spells for brown sugar, vanilla, and foam. It may not transport you by Floo Powder to Diagon Alley, but one sip should be enough to convince you that magic, at least the cozy kind, is very real.
Ingredients:
- 2 liters cream soda, chilled
- ½ teaspoon caramel extract
- ¼ teaspoon butter extract
- 1 cup heavy whipping cream
- ½ cup butterscotch topping
- ¼ cup powdered sugar
Directions
In a large pitcher, mix the cream soda with the caramel and butter extracts.
In a large mixing bowl, use an electric mixer to whip heavy cream until it forms stiff peaks.
Add butterscotch topping and powdered sugar. Mix to combine.
Pour the soda mixture into clear cups or mugs. Either scoop some whipped cream on top or fill a piping bag with a star tip and pipe it on top.
Enjoy!
