Mr. Frank is one of the 10th grade and DP English teachers, as well as the personal project coordinator, but what’s his favorite food? What is his favorite unit to teach? I asked him these questions, and more. Read on to find out!

If you weren’t a teacher, what would you be?

This is a tough question! If I were not a teacher, I think I would be a writer.

What is your favorite food?

Fish and Chips

Out of all the units you have taught, what is your favorite?

In the DP program, we analyzed a series of short films released by Netflix which adapted Roald Dahl short stories. These were directed by Wes Anderson, who was known for his unique filmmaking style.

What is a unit or topic that you wanted to teach, but never got the chance to?

I would like to teach the novel Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro. It is about a mystery in a boarding school in England, where they all get sent to for a certain purpose.

When you were 15, did you think you would be a teacher?

No. I thought I would be a writer, but there are too many people in writing at the moment and not enough in teaching.

What was your favorite vacation that you have been on?

Narrowboating in England, on Kennet + Avon canal. When you arrive in the city it feels amazing.  It feels like a gothic inspired-book, contrasting from the more countryside feeling of the canals.

Favorite book?

Either Middlemarch by George Eilio, or Slaughterhouse 5 by Kurt Vonnegut.

Favorite movie?

Brazil by Terry Gilliam, or Hot Fuzz and Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World both by Edgar Wright.

Why did you decide to teach English?

I wasn’t sure what to do post-college, and there was never a specific moment where I decided what to do, but I always liked English. It turns out I preferred the teaching part more.

What were your favorite subjects in school?

English and History.

Favorite author(s)?

Kurt Vonnegut, Margaret Atwood, and Ernest Hemingway.
